I would like to show this out of the box magnifier for an older family member who is having increasing difficulty reading the newspaper and books due to Macular Degeneration.You will be very pleased with this Magnifier, it's a very nice complement to a handheld traditional "Sherlock Holmes" magnifying glass, and most importantly it's EXTREMELY helpful to the family member, because it functions very differently to a handheld magnifying glass design.Designed for reading, but also good for crafts and projects.
Features:
1. Out of the box, this lens area is about the size of a standard 8.5 x 11" sheet of typing paper. Hold it up and it magnifies an entire 8 x 11" rectangle, not just the 3" x 3" (or whatever) size of a handheld round lens. Big advantage over a 'Sherlock' magnifier.
2. It's extremely lightweight. It's no strain at all to lift this and hold it out at arms' length while looking something over. Not tiring to use at all.
3. There's an LED light which operates off 3 standard AAA batteries (not included), it's good to have the option, especially for fine crafts or hobby work.
4. Fold-down legs on hinges snap up into the frame when not needed, but allow you to set up the magnifier like a mini-table over whatever you are reading or working on. Very convenient for newspapers and magazines.
5. Another nice advantage to this magnifier is that several people can huddle around and all share the magnified view, which again is harder to do with the smaller Sherlock lens area. Nice for old family photos, stamps, coins, fine details of any sort of crafts or hobby work or repairs.
6. A length of cord allows you to hang this around your neck like a necklace if you wish, or hang it from a hook. Handy for the family member who often reads a print newspaper in an easy chair so the magnifier doesn't fall as he turns pages and re-folds the newspaper.
